February Light

All morning in the February light
snowflakes float down
shrouding the ground
and my mind wanders off
in wistful far off dreams

snow covered twists and turns
of unsalted country roads
under my tires jar my mind
back to present and
the cellphone rings and

I wrap the silver February light
protectively around my soul
work to do, people to see
but for the moment I am alone
on country roads in February light.

  1. I'm not familiar with that poem, but I love what you've done with it. How great to have that moment of peace when you are not in the present.

  2. Your words always "paint the picture" so that I can see and feel right along with you, simply lovely! :)

  3. The picture you paint of the February morning is beautiful (seems much like what I saw yesterday here, but in city. So irritating though to have something like a cell phone break one's reverie and interrupt one's dreams!

  5. You capture our need for a few idyllic minutes of quiet, in the hubbub of the day to day grind.

  6. I love that aloneness that you speak of in this one. there are some times when aloneness is the only thing that will do and we all know those moments are all too brief before the world comes crashing back in. Great painting...loved it.

  8. The last stanza just glows! I'm looking out at February snow and you've made me see it differently.
    Thank you!

  11. I love the February light in your poem - and especially that you wrap it protectively around you......I do that in cars too. "alone on country roads in February light." Just beautiful. Love your header photo too, very wintery.

it figures...the ringing of the phone to snap you out of it...
phones make my adrenaline start to pump...if i didn't need one for work...i'd get rid of it!
